Today we descended 3,000 feet over something like 6 miles. Combined with the crazy winds and super curvy highway, it was easily the scariest thing I’ve done on a bike. Maybe one of the scariest things I’ve done period. After that we rode 30ish miles through the desert. The road was pretty crappy – think asphalt washboard – but still slightly downhill so we were able to maintain 20-25 mph the entire way. We got to El Centro an hour earlier than planned and made our way to the home of a couple I found on warm showers (it’s like couch surfing for bike touring). Showers, laundry, home cooked dinner with their friends, wine, conversation, dessert… They might be the greatest people ever. Feeling pretty good right now. Also sleepy.
